Two stories, two hours of the same evening.

Two short story films, made to be watched by a child and sat through by whoever is watching with them.

They were built as a pair, and the pair is the point. One belongs to the last of the evening — golden stone, oil lamps, a girl who has arrived somewhere she doesn’t understand yet. The other belongs to after dark, when the thing nobody wants near them turns out to be the one planting the forest.

The same country, a few hours apart. So the page they live on keeps the same hours: it starts warm and low, and by the second film the light on it has gone silver.

The Stories

One before dark, one after.

Both are a few minutes long and meant to be heard as much as watched. Read down and the page loses the light with them.

Stories for Children

Alice in India

Before dark

Alice follows the rabbit out of one story and into an Indian afternoon — domes behind them, the light already going gold, and the rabbit stopped at a sundial that says MEASURE TIME.

The Sky Dancers

After the moon is up

The animal everyone flinches at turns out to be the one doing the planting. It crosses the river after dark carrying seeds, and drops them as it goes. New forests begin.

After the Film

They drop seeds. New forests begin.

The last line of the second film, left running. Whatever grows here stays grown.

They plant it themselves if you leave them to it. Tap the bank to send one where you want it.

No trees.
